Feature readiness check

Questions to answer before you build, and the gaps they show.

Think of one feature you plan to build in the next month. Answer twelve questions with yes or no. You get a count and the gaps to close first.

Twelve questions

Answer for one feature. Yes means you are ready on that point. If you are not sure, answer no: that is a gap worth closing.

Decisions

1.Do you know what the team decided the last time something like this was built, and where that is written?
2.Has the person who owns the outcome said what “done” looks like?
3.Is it clear what this feature will not do?

Rules

4.Do you know every rule that applies: compliance, contract, regulation or one client’s setup?
5.Do you know whether it applies to every client, brand or market, or only some?
6.Has anyone checked it against other features that touch the same part of the product?

Code

7.Do you know which parts of the code this touches?
8.Do you know whether those parts are still used?
9.Has an engineer who knows that code read the plan?

People who know

10.Have you named the experts who must answer, and are they free in the next two weeks?
11.Have you written down the questions only they can answer, apart from the ones you can answer yourself?
12.Could someone new, or an AI tool, read what has been decided and build from it without asking you?

Most gaps are questions for an expert

Look at the gaps you found. Most of them are answers that sit with a few people: what was decided last time, which rule applies, which code is still used.

Rivora drafts each part of a feature, and asks the questions it can’t answer. The people who know answer, correct and approve. Each answer is kept as a decision, rule or clarification, so the next feature starts with it.
